Orchid Ensemble is hosting a round table discussion about the new musical genre, flourishing in Vancouver, that combines Western and Eastern musical traditions and instruments. Panel members will include Moshe Denburg (artistic director of Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra), Jin Zhang (conductor/composer), Ya-Wen Vivienne Wang (multi-faceted composer/pianist), Colin Miles (Western regional Director of the Canadian Music Center) as well as the ensemble's members Lan Tung (erhu), Mei Han (zheng) and Jonathan Bernard (percussionist). More guests may be confirmed later. Also many musicians and people working in this genre will be invited to the event.

The panel members will share their experiences and ideas of working with western and eastern musical traditions and instruments, in compositions and performances. The audience is also welcome to express their opinions and ask questions. The musicians will demonstrate excerpts from their new repertoire. This event is intended to raise the public awareness of this exciting musical genre and to introduce the audience to the "behind the scene" creative process of the composers and musicians in an informal way.

Co-presenters: Vancouver Public Library and Vancouver ProMusica Society.

Sponsors: the Canada Council and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission, ROC.
